A physician-led practice
Orlando Sexual Medicine is Dr. Carroll’s own practice, not a brand with rotating providers. He has practiced medicine since 1975 and has treated men’s sexual health in Central Florida since 1992, through every generation of treatment from the first oral medications to today’s options. Before the pill, and after it
From 1992, Dr. Carroll owned and ran American Vascular Clinic — 15 locations across Ohio and Florida devoted to the treatment of erectile dysfunction, with physicians practicing under him. That was the era before oral medication: ED was worked up and treated in an office, because the treatments that existed — injectable medications, in use since the late 1980s — had to be taught and started in person.
Oral medication arrived in 1998 and reorganized the field. Straightforward cases moved — sensibly — to a tablet and a prescription from a family doctor. What did not move is the group of men a tablet does not help.
The Maitland office was one of them. The practice consolidated into it — one central location instead of a network — and that is the office he has run ever since.
It is the reason the work here starts with finding a cause. Most men who come to this office have already tried the pill; Dr. Carroll was treating the problem before the pill existed.

Over his career Dr. Carroll has presented to the Florida Osteopathic Association and other medical and civic groups on evolving treatments for erectile dysfunction, and created the medical training manuals for Physicians Weight Loss Centers.
Research heritage: the Durus sublingual formulation
Dr. Carroll developed the Durus SofTab sublingual sildenafil formulation — a tablet designed to dissolve under the tongue rather than be swallowed. It was studied in a 2004 double-blind, placebo-controlled trial published in the International Journal of Urology (Deveci et al.): dosed at 20 mg — below the lowest standard sildenafil tablet strength — 65% of treated men achieved satisfactory erections versus 15% on placebo, with onset averaging about 15 minutes.
That study remains the reference the peer-reviewed literature points to for sublingual sildenafil — a Pfizer-sponsored 2020 pharmacology study cites it as its sole reference for “a sublingual formulation,” and Hims’s consumer guide to sublingual sildenafil cites the same trial in its sources.
